Meeting Ralph Baer in Pirmasens June 2006
Ralph Baer traveled to Germany in June 2006 to visit his home country
and the town where he was born. It was the first time he had visited Germany
since escaping from the Nazi regime shortly before World War II in 1938.
We (a group of collectors) had the opportunity to meet him in Pirmasens,
close to Rodalben where he was born in 1922.
Ralph was accompanied by his son Markus, daughter in law, and both of his
grandchildren.
Ralph also met with Mr. Roland Paul from the Institute of Voelkerkunde
Kaiserslautern and talked with him about his family and relatives that once
lived in Germany. He wanted to know their current whereabouts.
Later, Ralph gave us the opportunity to have several of our Odyssey
systems and their owners manuals signed. This was a great moment
for all of us!
After that Ralph, was invited by the Mayor of Pirmasens along with the Press
for an interview that took place in the town hall of Pirmasens. We filmed
this interview and have placed it on DVD.
Ralph also gave us the chance to take some nice photos of him with our group
as well as with his family.
Finally, Ralph left us heading for Cologne, the town where he lived from
1924-1938 and spent most of his childhood.
Thanks to Ralph for this wonderful day!!
