We found this "Homebrew" or Prototype on ebay lately. While the casing is completely different than those of the BSS-01 manufactured by RFT (VEB Frankfurt Oder), it uses it's board. The Joystick cables are spiral cords used for several Pong systems for example the MBO tele-ball systems. The shown system reminds us of the Miragame GMC-802 maybe it was used as sample. No further info could be found about this strange find. Can you help us out?
The system must have been made by a skilled technician using pcb material to built a housing. Also very nice spiral cords were used for the attached paddles. Small magnets on the back of the paddles held them tight to the casing when not in use.
The disassembled console shows what is hidden inside: A common VEB BSS-01 board using the famous AY-3-8500 chip by General Instruments. Like for the BSS-01 a built in psu was used. Also the knob bar is same than that of the Bildschirmspiel while the knobs used here are different.
The casing made of pcb parts and soldered together.
The "Stromlaufplan" which means schematic.
The warranty folder - please note date of sale and the small glued on paper showing the serial number of this unit.
The folder for VEB Service addresses.
Here we added our scans of the Bildschirmspiel BSS-01 manual for download (Please click on thumbnail to start download):
